JAI SRI RAM

‘Ram’ is a name that you will always hear in India, no matter where you go from city to village. Lord Rama was Lord Vishnu’s seventh incarnation and is adored by Hindus all over the world.

He was the epitome of goodness, teaching us how to be highly moral even when you don’t have a shed to cover yourself. Raavan, an extraordinarily powerful and clever demon, was defeated by Rama, and we were freed from his evilness.

Rama can be found in every heart of this magnificent country. Ramachandra is the main character in the epic Ramayana, and there are many temples devoted to him all around India.

RAMA NAVAMI CELEBRATIONS

Rama Navami is a spring event that commemorates Rama’s birthday. The celebration happens on the ninth day of the bright half of Chaitra month in the traditional Hindu calendar, as part of the spring Navratri.

The day is observed with the recital of Rama legends in temples or the reading of Rama stories at home. Some Vaishnava Hindus go to temples, while others worship at home, but many others participate in bhajan for kirtan with music as part of puja and aarti.

Charity activities and volunteer dinners are organized by the community. For many Hindus, the festival serves as an opportunity for moral introspection. Some people observe this day by vrata (fasting) or by taking a bath in a sacred river.

This day is significant at Ayodhya, Sitamarhi, Janakpurdham (Nepal), Bhadrachalam, Kodandarama Temple, Vontimitta, and Rameswaram. Ratha Yatras, also known as Shobha yatras, are chariot processions of Rama, Sita, his brother Lakshmana, and Hanuman that take place in various locations.

Many people in Ayodhya bathe in the sacred Sarayu river before visiting the Rama shrine.

Rama Navami also commemorates the culmination of the nine-day spring celebration known as Vasanthothsavam (Festival of Spring) in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, which begins with Ugadi.

This day’s highlights have included a Kalyanam (ceremonial wedding performed by temple priests) at Bhadrachalam on the banks of the Godavari in Telangana’s Bhadradri Kothagudem district, cooking and sharing Panakam, a sweet drink made with jaggery and pepper, a procession, and Rama temple decorations.
